Let’s carry on with the review.
What Is Coty?
There seems to be something that’s always happening in the MLM world. Most recently, news broke that Coty and Younique were making a decision to end its partnership.
The news was announced on August 29, 2019, and according to the two brands, it was a mutual decision that they both reached equally. As for the reasoning, it appears to be a result of both Coty and Younique needing to focus on different specific areas to grow their businesses and comp plans.
Per a statement that Coty released:
“Coty will sell its controlling stake to Younique’s original founders upon regulatory clearance, as soon as practicable.”
The exact specifics of the termination for the partnership won’t be available to the public, but other than returning its share of Younique to the company’s founders, nothing else appears to be changing.
Derek Maxfield, the CEO of Younique, also share some comments on the news:
“I am grateful for the collaboration and knowledge we have gained from our partnership with Coty. Younique is excited to return to our entrepreneurial roots armed with the knowledge and insights gained from the partnership experience.
We remain focused on serving our Presenters with innovative products and leading-edge digital selling tools that make Younique the easiest way to start and run a direct sales business.”
Similarly, we also hear from Coty’s CEO, Pierre Laubies:
“We wish Derek and the teams all the best for Younique’s next chapter. Our presence in Younique for the past few years has been an accelerator of our digital strategy, which has today become one of Coty’s strengths.
We now need to focus on our turnaround plan and the significant opportunities which lie in our Luxury, Consumer and Professional businesses.”
For some background on the two companies, Younique first debuted back in 2012 and is led by Derek Maxfield and Melanie Huscroft. It’s a peer-to-peer e-commerce system and focuses on having affiliates use social media to distribute and promote products.
As for the products being sold, Younique focuses on cosmetic and skincare goods. According to the company, it has around 200,000 affiliates that sell its products in 10 different countries.
Looking at Coty, it’s another beauty company and one of the largest in the world. It has an expansive catalog of products, ranging from hair color, fragrance, body care, and much more.
