Avon Decides to Abandon 21,000+ Affiliates in Australia and New Zealand
Avon has been getting a lot of attention on the web lately.
Because there is so much hype, a lot of network marketers are trying to sell this opportunity all over the place, including all over social media.
I want to let you all know that I am NOT in any way promoting or selling Avon.
I have simply gathered for you all the facts in this Avon Review in order for you to make a proper decision about it.
So, is it true? Is Avon a scam?
Can it really help you build an online empire?
Let’s carry on with the review.
What Is Avon?
Avon, one of the most icon names in the MLM space, made a rather surprising announcement on February 15. According to emails and a Facebook post that the company shared, it’ll be abandoning business operations in both Australia and New Zealand despite having well over 21,000+ affiliates throughout both markets.
Emails were sent out to affiliates in both countries regarding this news, but it seems as if most individuals found out about this via a post that was shared on the official Facebook page for AvonAUSNZ.
Well over 10,000 comments from affiliates show that they’re “disgusted” by Avon’s decision to leave Australia and New Zealand, and unfortunately, the Facebook post doesn’t offer much insight as to why Avon is choosing to do this.
Thankfully, a comment the company shared with an Australian media group does give us a better idea as to what’s taking place.
According to Avon:
“As part of the company’s strategy to return Avon to long-term sustainable profitable growth, the focus will be on markets with the greatest potential for future growth to support its vision of becoming the world’s leading social beauty company.
“In line with this, after a thorough deliberation on our performance, the direct selling conditions in the market, and potential for growth, we have considered all options for the business and it is with much sadness that we are announcing our decision to exit the Australia and New Zealand markets.”
Although Avon doesn’t exactly say why it can’t make money with 21,000 affiliates in these countries, we can come to something of a conclusion with a bit of digging.
Let’s look a little closer at Avon’s comment about wanting to focus on “markets with the greatest potential for future growth.”
Back in late 2015, it’s reported that Avon sold a whopping 80% of its business operations in the United States. Before that in 2013, 88% of the company’s $10 billion in revenue for that year came out of overseas markets.
Fast forward to early 2016, and this saw about half of Avon’s revenue come out of Latin America.
China used to be a big source of income for Avon, but this changed following a lawsuit against Avon claiming that the company had participated in bribery. This resulted in a settlement from Avon of $135 million, and along with this and China forcing Avon to sell its products in retail stores, sales revenue in China dropped by 41%.
Retail sales should always be the main focus for a legitimate MLM opportunity, but it seems as if Avon is choosing to favor affiliate recruitment over this.
Brazil is currently Avon’s cash cow, and should authorities in the country choose to investigate the company and find that it’s operating as a pyramid scheme, Avon’s going to be in deep trouble.
That may sound like a harsh claim, but if Avon can’t make money with 21,000+ affiliates marketing and selling its products in two countries, there’s something else taking place that it’s not talking about.
I’m not sure where Avon will go from here, but if you’re an affiliate for the company, I’d be interested in hearing what you think about the company’s decision to leave Australia and New Zealand.
